Presented by: Lockey Maisonneuve, survivor of human trafficking and author of A Girl Raised by Wolves.
Session Description: Lockey Maisonneuve is an author, speaker and certified yoga guide. In her memoir, A Girl Raised by Wolves, you will learn that she is a survivor in every sense of the word. As a child, Lockey was neglected, abused and sold into sex trafficking by her father. She was made to feel worthless and invisible by the very people who brought her into this world. As an adult, she survived breast cancer and her estranged mother's murder investigation.
For years, Lockey grappled with the healing process. After years of many different therapeutic and holistic modalities, healing seemed impossible until she realized she was trying to heal on everyone's terms but her own. That was the turning point. Lockey then set about picking what worked from each of the modalities she tried to create her own healing toolbox.
The work Lockey does today is a direct reflection of her healing journey. She guides trauma-informed yoga programs for incarcerated men, participants in substance recovery, mental health patients, gang members, and at-risk youth in inner-city schools. Lockey's unique experiences give her credibility within these communities. Lockey candidly shares her experience of healing trauma and what it took to triumph over that which almost destroyed her.
Session Objectives:
• Listen to a survivor’s story to learn the family dynamics that make children victims of pedophilia.
• Discuss strategies to building resilience in traumatized individuals.
