We often think of acting as merely “pretending.” But the truth is that acting is a study of those basic life-skills that we need to navigate our lives. Analytical skills, interactions skills-including listening and empathy, leadership and teamwork, self-awareness, and the ability to establish life- plans, objectives, and timelines. All of these enable us to succeed in our careers and life-pursuits, form and maintain healthy relationships, and help us to continue to grow on a deeper, personal level. In this workshop we will explore how the same strategies that actors are required to master in order to create truthful and memorable characters can also help us in our personal lives. About the Presenter: Rob Tietez, Adjunct Faculty, CAS As an adjunct faculty member at Wilmington University since 2014, Rob teaches several courses including Acting/Theater, Humanities, Contemporary Global Issues and ESL. Prior to coming to WilmU, Rob was at Temple University where he was a senior director with the internationally acclaimed Center for Intergenerational Learning and the co-founder of the national early childhood literacy initiative, Experience Corps. In addition to his work at Temple and WilmU, Rob served on a Governor’s Task Force on Education to design a core curriculum for the arts in Delaware Schools and was a long-time Artist-in Education with the Delaware State Arts Council.
